Andrew’s joining the dots to make himself a successful career

Andrew joined the Restart Scheme at our Guildford office in April 2022 but struggled to engage fully at first due to the fact he was homeless and living in his van. ​

A carpenter by trade, Andrew had previously won awards for his work but had never had a CV. Once we helped him create one and he started sending it to agencies, his phone was ringing off the hook with people interested in speaking to him. As a result, Andrew’s confidence increased massively.​

He was offered five interviews in one week and for one of them, his adviser and the outreach team arranged to buy him a shirt and shoes, ironed the shirt for him and drove him to the interview as his vehicle was out of action.​

​Andrew has been offered a carpentry role and is looking for apartments with the help of a charity. We continue to support him while he is in work, and he has already planned his next steps to teach carpentry.​
