Former taxi driver, Harry, relieved as he finds part time work!

Former taxi driver, Harry 65, has Parkinson’s Disease and feels both his age and medical background were formidable barriers to getting back into full-time work. He was forced to give up his taxi business several years ago, but despite everything, he remained upbeat and optimistic about finding other work.​

He was very enthusiastic, willing to learn and accept any support that was offered. He readily enrolled on the Voncap 50+ programme being piloted in our Oxford office, providing learning and development for that age group. He received help in putting a robust CV together and soon got valuable interview experience. ​

Harry started working part-time at Poundstretchers in Witney in August 2023. He’s so happy and relieved as he has always worked and felt isolated with the only reasons for him going out were his Jobcentre Plus and the Restart Scheme appointments, and shopping. He felt that his health has deteriorated from not being in work, but now being around new people will be beneficial for his mental and physical health.​
