Lorraine from Windsor is back in work after receiving support to overcome her barriers.

Lorraine, 45, is registered disabled as she is blind in one eye and also suffers from anxiety. Despite consistently applying for jobs, her luck wasn’t changing – until she was supported by our Job Entry Targeted Support (JETS) team in Berkshire.
Why Lorraine joined the JETS programme
Desperate to get a job, Lorraine was applying for at least 12 roles every week. She sometimes landed interviews, but felt she wasn’t making enough of an impression to recruiters on the day. It was clear she needed some extra support to help her achieve her goal and she volunteered herself to enrol on our JETS programme.
How Fedcap helped
Lorraine was partnered with Employment Adviser Anita Hobbs who supported her throughout her journey. Right from the off, it was clear Lorraine needed support with some targeted job searching and some identification of her strengths.
Lorraine also worked with Tutor Jefferson Iweh to bring out her transferable skills and enhance her social networking skills on LinkedIn.
With the number of interviews she was getting increasing, it felt Lorraine was getting closer, but potentially needed the extra push. Anita then arranged some financial assistance to help fund some new interview clothing, including a pair of new shoes to help boost her confidence.
Getting the job
Through great resilience and determination, Lorraine was successful in securing a job with SSE as a Meter Reader. She was over the moon. To help settle her into the new role, Anita also offered to buy her a second monitor to support with her poor eyesight. And since receiving this job offer, Lorraine has had a second job offer come through as a Payroll Administrator – and she couldn’t be happier.
Anita said: “She never gave up she attended lots of interviews and was upset that she wasn’t given the roles. We had long chats and she has got there securing a job which I am so proud of her determination to take to knocks backs but still kept going. Her resilience was amazing.”
Lorraine said: “Anita has helped me so much with getting back to work and my confidence. She is lovely, caring and gets excited when you get job interviews and a new job. There have been times when I have wanted to give up, but Anita has called and given me the confidence to keep going and she generally cares about how you are doing.”
